Read Naturally

Read Naturally is designed to improve reading fluency (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension) for elementary and middle school students by using the Read Naturally computer software and saving their data on a Read Naturally server. According to the Read Naturally website, this program has three main strategies: repeated reading of text for developing oral reading fluency, teacher modeling of story reading, and systematic monitoring of student progress by the students themselves and by teachers. Students work at a reading level appropriate for their achievement level, progress through the program at their own rate, and work, for the most part, on an independent basis. The Read Naturally program is designed to increase time spent reading.

In Computing and Information Services (CIS), we have a Read Naturally server that is administered and maintained at the Ed Center, which is backed up every evening. In order to use it, a school needs to purchase Read Naturally licenses and contact nethelp@4j.lane.edu to get their school set up on the centralized Read Naturally server.
