Allowing Pop-ups on Macs for Internet Filtering

If your browser isn't configured to allow pop-up windows from lane.edu, you will have to log into the Internet filter each time you go to a new web page. The advantage of using Firefox is that you don't have to allow all pop-up windows - you can allow pop-ups from just lane.edu.

Here are instructions on how to allow pop-ups for Safari and Firefox.

Safari

  1. Pull down the Safari menu.
  2. See if there is a check to the left of Block Pop-Up Windows.
  3. If there is, select this item to allow Pop-Up Windows.
  4. To make sure Pop-Ups Windows are allowed, pull down the Safari menu and make sure there isn't a check to the left of Block Pop-Up Windows.
  5. Login to the filter and a small window should appear with your username. Keep this window open and you shouldn't be prompted to log in on the filter again.

Firefox

  1. Pull down the Firefox menu.
  2. Select Preferences....
  3. Click the Content icon.
  4. If the box to the left of Block pop-up windows is not checked, check it.
  5. Click the Exceptions... button to the right.
  6. Under Address of web site: type lane.edu and click Allow.
  7. Close the Allowed Sites - Popups window and close the Content window.
  8. Login to the filter and a small window should appear with your username. Keep this window open and you shouldn't be prompted to log in on the filter again.
